Part 2  Build a Personal Relationship With God:  (1 John 4:10; John 14:6; Acts 17:27 ESV)
We must build a personal relationship with God.  I found this out after I lost my husband to illness.  I felt so all alone and had trouble adjusting to being by myself, my husband and I were together over 35 years.  One day while praying I felt God’s presence so strongly and I knew for sure that I was not alone.
Then the next day of morning prayer a voice in my head said to me you are never alone.  This began my personal relationship with my Father God. (I also learned that I had been depending on my husband for my spiritual walk with God and God let me know that I had to develop that relationship for myself—you can’t depend on anyone else to help you with your personal relationship with God—not your mother, father or even your pastor, just like you could not depend on any one else to help you build your relationship with your husband)
This began my personal walk with God.

Part 3 Listen for Gods Voice: (Zechariah 7:13; John 9:31; James 1:19 NIV)

My Vision/Dream. 7/22/13
Saw lots of peoples faces but didn't recognize any of them, i said OK God all you've been showing me lately is faces, what does it mean and He said I want you to pray for them & right away i saw a person in a bed so i began to pray for the person immediately I saw another person playing the drums & I prayed for them, immediately i was in a large room with a lot of people & lmy coworker was there talking with the people, i was sitting at a table reading something & taking notes Pastor came & began to talk with us and others in the room, he said to me what  are you doing some research and i said yes then he told me to look up jane & i thought jane who & he said jane then i said u mean like Tarzan & jane & he said yes thats her & he said she heard a voice crying in the jungle & went in search of it and i then opened my eyes and asked him what the vision meant & HE said listen earnestly & carefully for My voice search it out & you will hear it & you will find it

Part 4 Spend "Alone" Time With God:

I use Mind-fullness in my morning meditation to concentrate on hearing the voice of God as I read scriptures and pray.  Mind-fullness is a procedure used by health professionals to quiet your many busy thoughts in order to concentrate on one positive thought.  As an example:  you are having constant head aches and the over the counter medication is not helping to relieve it, you use Mind-fullness to help take away the pain by thinking in your mind over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over again that “you are healed of the headache by the ‘Blood of Jesus.”  As you practice these words every time you get that headache it will work and you will soon have a different medication to help with your pain.  I began to use it after not getting anywhere by just practicing being quiet and still to hear Gods voice for many months. I always thought I would hear a very loud and audible voice as I prayed, but I learned that God speaks to you in a still small voice--1 Kings 19:12, “after the noises of winds, thunder, earthquake and fire Elijah heard a ‘gentle whisper’ and he listened to God speak.”  I found it very hard to still my mind and listen for Gods whisper but when I began to practice placing my mind on Jesus, and repeating it over and over again—not out loud but in my mind, I was able to hear that "still, small voice of God."

EFFECTIVE PRAY: (using the Acronym P--R--A--Y) P=PRAISE      R=REPENT        A=ASK      Y=YIELD
Part 1 PRAISE:  Psalm 100—“Make a joyful noise (or shout) unto the LORD, all ye lands! Serve the LORD with gladness; come before His presence with singing; know that the LORD, He is GOD; it is He who has made us, …. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise; be thankful to Him and bless His Holy name.” KEY WORD (or password)=“THANK YOU!”  When you can come into His Presence to Pray, you have opened the gate (the file to His word which is where you find Him) to         Gods presence! your password is "Thank You & Praise."

Part 2 REPENT: The 2nd letter in our acronym is “R” for Repent.  Repentance in prayer means taking time to search your heart and ask Gods forgiveness and repent of anything that has come between you and Him.   Psalm 19:12-13 says it well: “Who can understand his errors?  Cleanse me from secret faults; keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins, let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless and I shall be innocent of great transgression.”  A sober reminder also comes from Psalm 66:18: If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened." A spiritual cleansing is needed in order to come nearer to the throne of God.  So when you pray, ask God to reveal any sin in your life you may be overlooking and God will honor your heart of repentance.

Part 3 ASK:  I learned to meditate on Gods Word by reading it over and over again, and then He told me that there is more to meditation then just repeating My Word so I asked Him “How do I meditate on Your Word.” He gave me scriptures to help me understand about meditating on His Word, most are from the Psalm 119; but a few others are in—Acts, Ezekiel and Luke   The next step to hearing Gods voice is to be still.  In Psalm 46:10, God tells us, "Be still and know that I am God."  To hear Gods voice you first learn to be still. When you're still it's much easier to draw near to God and begin to hear Him speak in your heart. His encouragements are calm and tender, if you are not still, you can miss them. You must:  !-remove any distractions, 2-find a place where you can be alone and not disturbed.

Part 4 YIELDYield here refers to surrendering to God. This means allowing oneself to be led by the will of God. Psalm 37:4 says "Delight yourself in the Lord.... Delight in Hebrew means to become soft, so delighting means taking a yielding position before God. In prayer yielding is to stop talking, wait, listen and hear God speaking to you. As you yield to God you will be surprised at some things that will come to your attention and as you practice this every time you pray you may actually hear God "whisper in your ear."
